Take A Hike
The Sunshine Coast Trail
This stretch of 180 km hiking trail is famous for it’s hut-to-hut network amongst old growth forests and pristine lakes. International visitors are loving this Trail. Come for a day hike or camp along the way. Visit the SunshineCoastTrail website for trail maps and more information.
Our Great Outdoors
If you wish to enjoy the outdoors we have hikes and trails for all levels. Valentine Mountain and Inland Lake Trail are perfect for novice hikers. Kayaking, mountain biking, scuba diving, horseback riding… oh, and let’s not forget fishing, are all here at your doorstep.
Downtown Beach
Right smack dap in downtown Powell River we have an amazing beach. Enjoy concerts at the Willingdon Beach Pavilion, let the kids play in the playground (yes, there’s a water feature for those hot days), walk the pier and look for starfish and seals, camp overnight at the campground with the best ocean view around. Willingdon Beach Trail takes you through the forest, right beside the ocean, and alongside a collection of historic mining tools on your way to beach access views for a picnic. Back at the entrance to the park get an ice cream cone, play a round of mini golf and tour through the Powell River Museum.
Marine Avenue
If shopping is more your thing, be sure to explore Marine Avenue’s gift, clothing and craft shops. Take a leisurely walk along several blocks, glancing at the ocean between stores. Time for a meal? Marine Avenue has some of our best restaurants including Costa del Sol Latin Cuisine, Coastal Cookery, Snickers, Strikers, Genki Japanese Cuisine, The Modern Peasant, Rocky Mountain Pizza & Bakery, Base Camp Coffee, Culaccino, Monks On Marine, 32 Lakes Coffee Shop and Little Hut Curry… and we have probably forgotten some (and our apologies for that).
Historic Townsite
Our original town was established in 1910, and we still have over 400 of the original buildings. Come and explore this historic district with the Patricia Theatre (still showing movies nightly!), Dwight Hall and Henderson House lovingly restored. Drop in to the Townsite Market, a completely refurbished warehouse with unique shops. We have two historic inns operating in Townsite: The Rodmay Heritage Hotel and The Old Courthouse Inn. Summer walking tours are hosted by the Townsite Heritage Society. Townsite Brewery has taken up residence in the old Post and Telegraph Office, also offering tours of the brewery on Saturdays and Thursdays.
